DESIGN RESEARCH, CONCEPTING & PROTOTYPING
in close collaboration with technicians,
we set up a design process aiming to discover opportunities to implement the latest tech to support technicians in their day to day.
We designed a smart shoulder: connecting the smartphone with Arduino and sensors so that it autonomously signals with flashes in response to bad posture, offers autonomous lighting, detects a man-down situation and makes emergency calls. Activating the panic-mode will start a live video call so that backup can monitor the situation. These are but a few of many other features to assist solitary technicians working in remote places.
We sketched the first ideas and guided the entire process up until a full functioning smart vest to kick-start an internal process of product development.
Eager to learn everything about their daily routines, we have been following technicians on the job while interrogating them.
We developed a framework for creative sessions to distill valuable insights from the experts.

Final Design & Engineering
